BYP Jr. continues their food education at Heritage Out of School Time (HOST). This time, it was smoothies! The BYP Jr team set up three different tables.
Growing Station
Jessi led the station to learn how bananas and pineapples grow. The kids drew what they thought the growth of a banana and a pineapple looked like.
Everyone was fascinated by the strange plants they learned about, but wanting to eat the display fruits was definitely high on everyone’s priority list.

Tasting Station
Next up on the smoothie tour was the fruit tasting station. Chawntay and Kiara sliced strawberries, blueberries, bananas, and pineapples for the HOST kids to taste. Almost all of them had seen these fruits in other foods like pies, but for some, this was their first time tasting a blueberry by itself. Pineapple, on the other hand, was a universal favorite.
Smoothie Station
Of course, after talking about these fruits, we had to give the kids something new to try! With lightning speed, Angel and Deisha served up cup after cup of tasty smoothies. The kids had either a strawberry pineapple banana smoothie or a blueberry banana smoothie.
The kids loved the color that came out of blending these fruits together, and loved drinking them even more.
The Big Picture
Last but not least, Talai and Vince floated between the stations, making sure everyone was having a fun time. Everyone kept pretty calm, and the day went off without a hitch.
A big thank you to all the youth and adults that helped to make Smoothie Day a huge success!
